For centuries, the fishermen of Oberkelheim and the Franciscan order guarded each other with "Argus eyes" in order to distribute the "grounds and benefices" along the East Bavarian Way of St. James fairly. "The fish for some and the wine for the monks" - this was one of the many compromises between the citizens of Kelheim and the church representatives. However, both were dependent on each other, as fish and wine are the primal attributes of Christianity. The walk leads along the Danube to the western end of Oberkelheim, past the river master's house through the "Löwengrube" up the Michelsberg to the western end of the former abbey and back through the eastern part of the National Natural Monument "Weltenburger Enge" via the "Alter Hafen" to the starting point.
