The old Ludwig-Danube-Main Canal was put into operation in 1846 after a construction period of eleven years.
The old canal harbor is reached via Stadtknechtgasse. The walled canal trough contains lock no. 1, the harbor basin with crane, warehouse and lock house. The 600 m long structure is protected as a monument of engineering architecture, remains functional and can also be used.
