Restrictions on rail traffic

Due to construction work, there will be rail replacement services at Saal (Donau) station during the following periods: 4 to 31.07. and 29.08. to 2.09.2025. The buses used do not transport bicycles. Alternatively, you can use the leisure bus on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The nearest train stations are in Regensburg (from Kelheim further along the Danube cycle path) and in Münchsmünster (on the Danube cycle path towards Ingolstadt).

Altmühltal cycle path detour

From July 21 to August 1, 2025, the section of the Altmühltal cycle path in Kipfenberg between Regelmannsbrunn and Böhming will be closed due to renovation work. Cyclists will be diverted here for a short stretch.

Popular classic

The Altmühltal cycle path is one of the most popular cycle paths in Germany - and rightly so: on 166 kilometers you follow the leisurely flowing Altmühl from Gunzenhausen to Kelheim through the Altmühltal Nature Park and discover the fascinating beauty of the Altmühl region in one stretch. During the ride, you will experience mighty rock formations of the Jura Alb, impressive juniper heaths and lush riverside and meadow landscapes. This makes cycling really fun.
