Altmühltal Archaeology Park

An exciting journey through time awaits you in the Altmühltal between Kelheim and Dietfurt. Let yourself be whisked away into the world of the Neanderthals and Celts. How did an Ice Age inhabitant hunt a mammoth 50,000 years ago? In which cave did our ancestors carve their first works of art? How did the Neolithic settlers live?

You can find out this and much more at 18 stations in the Altmühltal Archaeology Park. The well-signposted route of around 39 kilometers is mostly on the Altmühltal cycle path and is ideal for exploring on foot or by bike. Most of the stations can also be easily reached by car or bus.

A varied annual program ensures that archaeology can be experienced in the truest sense of the word: Archaeological lectures, colorful children's activities such as "Stone Age Picasso - a painting workshop for children", courses such as "Forging bronze brooches" or "Textile techniques of the Celts" are just some of the more than 50 events.

Experience the Altmühltal Archaeology Park thanks to the web app and state-of-the-art technology

A new highlight now awaits visitors to Europe's longest archaeology park: "Augmented and virtual reality immerses them directly in history. "The imaginary archaeologist Leopold takes all visitors with him on his work in the Altmühltal, shows finds, presents abandoned caves and explains the formation of the unique landscape." In addition, there are small boards at all stations of the archaeology park with QR codes which take you directly to the content of the respective station.

Europe's largest archaeology park is accessible free of charge at all times. The annual program and further information can be found in the current flyer "Archaeology Park Altmühltal".
