Coming from Bad Abbach, the Danube Panorama Trail initially runs along the Danube dambefore passing through Oberndorf and onto the Jura Trail meets. Now you have to climb about 80 meters in altitude until after a total of 1.5 km through forest and meadows you reach Matting where the Jura Trail and the Danube Panorama Trail separate.
In the town, it is worth taking a stroll along the street "An der Donau". Here you can take a look at the Yaw rope ferry at the bathing bay or admire the artistic treasures in some of the gardens as well as stopping for a bite to eat. From Matting, the hiking trail leads along the edge of the forest and through the forest on natural paths via Unterirading, where you can also stop for a bite to eat, to Pentling.
Not far from the former Pope's Church (Benedict last resided in Pentling), the path leads through the village back out to the Danube slopes. After a while, you come to a special section of the trail - the narrow and partly rock-framed 2.2 km long slope path of the Max-Schultze-Steig nature reserve, which connects the town and the countryside. Within the Max-Schultze-Steig nature reserve you can also get to the Protective rock "Hoppefelsen" which bears the name of the botanist David Heinrich Hoppe, who sought shelter under a rocky roof during a storm
The route finally leads via Großprüfening am Prüfening Castle to the center of Regensburg. Since 2006 the Regensburg's old town with Stadtamhof on the UNESCO World Heritage List. "One of the most beautiful cities in the world" (Lord Norman Foster, English star architect) welcomes the hiker.
