More about the Danube Panorama Trail!
From the old town of Kelheim, you start your day's stage on the Danube Panorama Trail in an easterly direction. You cross the Altmühltor gate and change banks to the Main-Danube Canal. After about two kilometers, the Main-Danube Canal flows into the Danube.
In the Kelheim district of Kelheimwinzer, you should make a detour to the Jakobskirche church with its striking onion dome. The newly designed church forecourt invites you to take a break. Via Herrnsaal, follow the combined cycle and footpath along the Danube to Kapfelberg. From here, the path leads you over the slightly higher Jura slopes to Poikam and change sides of the river.
Shortly afterwards, you will have reached your stage destination of Bad Abbach. In the spa town of Bad Abbach, you can visit the Heinrichsturm, the remains of a ducal castle and the church of St. Nicholas on the Schlossberg and enjoy the view over the town and the Danube. You can end the stage in the spa gardens or in the market itself.
TipIf you want to relax a little after the stage, you should not miss out on a visit to the Kaiser-Therme thermal baths or swim a few lengths in the Inselbad in the summer months.
