The Winzerweg is one of four themed trails in the district of Kelheim. Funded by the LIFE+ nature project DANUBIA, the "DonauPforten" are designed to introduce visitors to unique natural and cultural landscapes along the Danube in the form of texts, images, videos and audio contributions (via QR codes).
This trail starts in Kelheim in the beautiful district of Kelheimwinzer. There are wonderful views of Kelheim and the Danube along the slopes. After about 2 km along the trail, we come across a beech forest. Near-natural beech forests are considered an irreplaceable natural heritage and a valuable natural treasure of the European Union. Further along the trail is the Bavarian Forest Farmers' School, which is unique in its kind and invites you to take a short detour.
After passing the outskirts of Kelheim, we encounter the former vineyards, witnesses to a lost culture. In the Middle Ages, Baier wine was still grown here, now we find rare animal and plant species. On the way back to Kelheimwinzer, there are two more adventure gateways: the Danube slopes with their typical limestone slabs and a rough pasture biotope.
