In the district of Kelheim, the long-distance cycle path leads from Freising along the Abens cycle path via Mainburg to Abensberg. This part of the route takes you through the Hallertau hop-growing region, the largest contiguous hop-growing area in the world. The unique backdrop of seven-metre-high hop gardens accompanies you on your ride. Hop fields along the way and typical Bavarian beer gardens invite you to linger. In Abensberg, the charming old town and/or Kuchlbauer's Bierwelt invite you to linger. The route then continues along the famous Danube cycle path. This very scenic part of the route passes Weltenburg Abbey. It is certainly worth stopping here to visit the brewery, the monastery, the beer garden or all of them together. The route continues to Kelheim, where excursion destinations such as the Liberation Hall can be visited. From Kelheim you cycle on to Regensburg.
