Via Nova pilgrimage route

Monastery and church tour in the district of Kelheim

On over 100 kilometers in seven suggested stages, you will visit all active and former monasteries in the district of Kelheim and a large number of pilgrimage churches on the European pilgrimage route Via Nova. Experience the tranquillity of the river valleys of the Große Laaber, Abens and Danube and be impressed by the hop gardens of the Hallertau. Go on a little pilgrimage adventure!

At the latest with Hape Kerkeling's bestseller "Ich bin dann mal weg", pilgrimages are back on everyone's lips. But it doesn't always have to be a time-out lasting several months. The European pilgrimage route sees itself as "spiritual guidance for the 21st century", without the path being directed towards a central goal. This means that the path can be followed in both directions - even in the district of Kelheim.

In the district of Kelheim, the inhabited monasteries in Paring, Rohr i.NB and, of course, the famous Weltenburg Monastery are connected by the approximately 112-kilometre route. Between the spiritual places, you can experience the diverse natural landscape of the region. The route is mostly away from the main tourist routes, so you can escape from everyday life and set off on a journey - including to yourself.

There are accommodation options at all stage destinations that can also accommodate pilgrims for one night. You can find your desired accommodation in our host search and some can be booked directly online.
