You are here: Home page " Weltenburg Hiking Trails III: Weltenburg High Trail
The starting point of the Weltenburger Höhenweg is the information platform at the Danube landing stage in Kelheim. Your path first leads you eastwards to a bridge. From there, a small staircase leads up to the Maximilliansbrücke bridge, which you follow to the end and then keep right. Continue straight on through the Donaupark industrial estate. Here, follow the signs for the Höhenwanderweg trail. At the end of the industrial estate, the trail leads you through mixed woodland, which provides shade, especially on sunny days. At the so-called Wieserkreuz you have an impressive view of the Weltenburger Enge. The route then continues through the mixed forests past the prehistoric hilltop settlements on the Arzberg. From this point, you have a great view of the Danube floodplains. At Frauenberg, above Weltenburg Abbey, you can take an entertaining look inside the Frauenberg Chapel if you are interested. From there, the last section leads downhill to Weltenburg Monastery via a sandy path and a few steps. Once you have reached your destination, you can reward yourself at the monastery beer garden and relax there.
