A crossing like in the old days.
As early as 1442, a cable ferry crossed the Danube between Weltenburg and Stausacker. However, Weltenburg Abbot Konrad only granted the crossing rights for festivals and public holidays, for pilgrims and visitors to Weltenburg Abbey and the Frauenberg Chapel. In 1684, Abbot Johannes granted the right of passage as a hereditary right for the first time. In 1956, the neighboring communities formed a ferry association to maintain the ferry service for everyone. Today it belongs to the town of Kelheim and is operated by a member of the town's staff.
Crossing with the cable ferry is always a special experience, whether hikers, cyclists, guests with motorcycles or cars - there is room for everyone on the ferry.
