Weltenburg Hiking Trail IV: Archaeological Hiking Trail (Stage 2)

Weltenburg Hiking Trail IV: Archaeological Hiking Trail (Stage 2)

Second stage of the archaeological hiking trail through the Weltenburger Enge nature reserve in the Altmühltal Nature Park

Your tour starts at Weltenburg Abbey and continues over the Arzberg with the memorable Wolfgangswall and another Celtic wall towards Holzharlanden. On your hike, you will pass a burial mound field, a Celtic redoubt and a Roman fortress until the path leads you down into the Hopfental valley. After a somewhat longer ascent, you arrive at the Wieser Kreuz viewpoint. As a reward for the climb, you get a great view of the Danube gorge. The route then takes you past a former quarry. You are then led back down into the valley and return to Wöhrdplatz via the Danube bridge.
