Weltenburg Hiking Trail IV: Archaeological Hiking Trail (Stage 1)

Weltenburg Hiking Trail IV: Archaeological Hiking Trail (Stage 1)

The starting point of your hike is the Archaeological Museum. The route takes you a short distance through the center of Kelheim before you leave it through the Mittertor gate and cross the bridge over the "old" Ludwig Canal just a few meters further on. Standing on the bridge, you will see the "Old Harbour" industrial monument, which is still in working order today. The route continues to the Liberation Hall on the Michelsberg. From there, you walk past the Celtic ramparts, along former ore mining fields to the longest Celtic rampart. You continue along the section of the Celtic rampart and can enjoy the impressive view of Weltenburg Abbey. You then hike back to the Celtic rampart and follow the steep descent to the Danube. There you have the following two options: You can either take a fishing boat (=Zille) or a cable ferry to cross the river to Weltenburg Abbey. This ferry is about 900 meters away
