The forest route connects two special sights in the region: the Liberation Hall and Weltenburg Abbey. During this tour, you cross a beautiful mixed deciduous forest, which provides pleasant shade on hot days.
The tour starts at the information platform at the landing stage. From there, the route initially follows the embankment. After a short time, you cross the old Ludwig Canal, the predecessor of today's Main-Danube Canal. There the path branches off to the right and leads through the so-called Fischerdörfl past the Franciscan church, which now houses an organ museum. After a few houses, the ascent to the Befreiungshalle begins on the left. The somewhat strenuous path winds its way up the slope in serpentines. Once you have successfully mastered the climb, you get a great view over the district town. A visit to the Befreiungshalle is highly recommended.
Then follow the signs for Waldroute II at the adjacent parking lot. From this point, walk along the main path until you reach a large crossroads. Continue to follow the signs (straight ahead). After about one kilometer, the route leads down to the Danube. There are two different ways to get to Weltenburg Monastery on the other bank: either by "Zille" (fishing boat) or with the cable ferry in Stausacker. To reach the cable ferry, follow the Danube another 900 m upstream.
