We start our hike in the courtyard of Weltenburg Abbey and walk up a short, steep path to the Frauenberg. We pass the Frauenberg chapel, which stands on the foundations of a Roman miner's temple, and stelae show us the way. Here we turn left and walk diagonally upwards across meadows and along the edge of the forest. A short section of this path runs above the Danube and gives us a view of its course between the trees. We continue through the forest and along the edge of the forest until we reach a fork in the path above the village of Weltenburg. Here we keep left and walk into the mixed forest. After 2km we come to the "Silbergrube" fountain. After a short distance, we find ourselves on the combined hiking and cycle path. Before heading downhill towards Kelheim, we turn left and climb uphill to the "Wieserkreuz" - with a unique view of the Danube valley. Below us lies the "Klöster'l" and to the left the magnificent Danube gorge. On the opposite hill we see the Liberation Hall. From here we walk downhill to the Kelheim forest cemetery, where we first turn right and then left at the end of the path to the Waldfriedhof parking lot. At the parking lot, we turn left and walk through a gate into the cemetery for a short distance. We then turn right onto the footpath in the direction of "Hölzlkapelle" and Kelheim. We walk past the Donaupark and cross the Maximiliansbrücke bridge on the left. At the end of the bridge, we reach the parking lot of the boat landing stage via a staircase on the left. From there, the Altmühltal-Panoramaweg takes us back to Weltenburg Abbey - including a romantic Danube crossing with Zille or Ferry.
