The Nibelungen Ride leads through the beautiful nature of the Altmühltal. Highlight of the MTB tour: Prunn Castle and the Tatzlwurm wooden bridge.
For an MTB tour on the Nibelungen Ride, simply follow the signs.
The Nibelungen Ride starts from Riedenburg with a short section on the Altmühltal cycle path before entering the Hammertal valley. Crank turn after crank turn, you pedal past impressive but now disused quarries up to the Tangrintel plateau.
The ascent to the Jura height has only a slight incline, which is why it can also be ridden very comfortably by untrained bikers. In addition, the tour runs on gravel roads far away from traffic, allowing you to concentrate fully on the varied nature and the fun of riding.
The undisputed highlight of the Nibelungen Ride is the Prunn Castleto which the tour also owes its name. For it was here, at one of the best-preserved castles in Bavaria, that an original manuscript of the Song of the Nibelungs was once found. The castle can be visited as part of a guided tour - or you can simply enjoy the view: The view of the Main-Danube Canal far down in the valley and as far as Riedenburg and Rosenburg Castle is unique from here.
The route then continues along an interesting hollow road back down into the valley. The Tatzlwurm wooden bridge At Essing, you cross the road by pushing your bike before working your way up the "Schlott" on gravel paths on the opposite side of the valley. After crossing the road towards Buch, the Nibelungen Ride becomes increasingly attractive for bikers thanks to narrow forest paths, until the crowning finale on the descent down to Riedenburg.
